About

There isn’t much left to say about Purple Rain that hasn’t already been said, yet there never seem to be enough words to fully capture its significance. More than an album, Purple Rain is a cultural landmark—one that forever changed the landscape of music and continues to inspire generations of artists and listeners alike. In 1984, Prince stood at a creative crossroads. Already a superstar following the success of albums like 1999, he set out to create something far greater than a hit record: an artistic universe that fused music, film, fashion, and an autobiography into a singular vision. The result was Purple Rain, released with The Revolution on June 25th. Serving as both a soundtrack and a bold declaration of artistic ambition, the album became one of the most influential recordings ever made. Its success was unprecedented. Alongside the film of the same name, Purple Rain became a defining artifact of the 1980s, cementing Prince’s place among music’s most visionary artists. At the peak of the evening, we will experience the album front-to-back on our Hi-Fi sound system, allowing guests to immerse themselves in this timeless masterpiece. This listening session is co-presented by modern-funk pioneer @damfunk who will guide a curated vinyl experience centered around musical storytelling, album discussion, and Prince’s enduring legacy. Known as “The Ambassador of Boogie Funk,” DāM-FunK has called Prince “a modern-day Mozart,” crediting him with changing his life and inspiring him to embrace a fearless, genre-defying approach to music. We will be discussing the common threads and spaces in-between following the album listening session. Each ticket includes a complimentary album-inspired cocktail presented by @doloreslbc We will also have Prince inspired flash-tattoos by @softfury & a record pop-up by @nickguyone in the patio.
