Ronald Snijders' A Safe Return, is a smoky, unhurried jazz-funk private press, and one of the quietly sought-after artifacts of the diasporic jazz underground. Born in Paramaribo and raised between Suriname and the Netherlands, Snijders carried the kaseko rhythms of his birthplace into the European jazz studios of the '70s. He meticulously plays every instrument himself on this work, weaving spiritual flute lines over loose, hand-percussive grooves and warm keys.
