For our Mother's Day edition, Hybrid Identity reflects on mothering beyond blood. What guides us, what protects us, and what holds us? You may have heard blood is thicker than water, but we also know water is the fundamental source of life. How do you water our collective garden, and how do you get your life? Together and with our chosen lineage, we conceive of and bring forth the spaces we want to see. From the dancefloor to the side quests, we decide what traditions and wisdom passed down do we honor, and what cycles do we break? Through sound and movement, we discover what it means to build, to transform, and to carry. Don't forget to drink your water. Don't forget to call your mother(s), -- whoever that may be to you. In this edition, we are proud to welcome Azu Tiwaline for this exclusive, rare east-coast appearance in an intimate space. ❀ Azu Tiwaline is an artist creating new worlds for us all to hear and see each other within. Conjuring a sense of cosmic belonging within life’s maelstrom, her music is an extension of her being transformed into abundant rhythmical energy, beloved for her wonderful ability to channel vast inner realms into the outward joys of dance and movement. With an extraordinary musical vision firmly rooted in the freeing kinetics of Soundsystem psychedelia, her vibrations bring vivid influence from the El Djerid desert and her Tunisian heritage into communication with the transcendent spatial awareness of dub and the grooving dynamic exuberance of techno. Uniting these spellbinding elements into an alchemic synthesis, she conducts Saharan frequencies into eclectic entrancing rhythms with a nimble and profound elegance, contrasting microcosms of light and darkness immersed in mercurial depths, ecstatic percussive intonations, and the breathtaking enchantment of bass weight pressure. ❀ Julia Govor is a New York–based electronic music producer, DJ, and curator whose work occupies a critical position within contemporary techno and experimental club music. Her practice is grounded in an inquiry into rhythm, spatial perception, and bodily movement, approached through an intuitive yet formally rigorous engagement with techno’s structural foundations. Govor has been widely recognized for a production style that reconfigures canonical techno forms into highly individualized sonic architectures. Resident Advisor has noted her ability to “take the fundamentals of techno and make them her own,” while The New Yorker has described her work as “beguiling” and “rare,” emphasizing its cognitive and affective depth. Her output has also been highlighted by Bandcamp Daily, which identified her as one of the leading contemporary electronic music producers. ❀ Drawing on a 15-year musical career, SSG_ is a producer, DJ, and Aversion label head whose raw, experimental approach to techno seamlessly merges dubby atmospheres with gritty, broken-beat textures. Originally a jazz-trained upright and electric bass player from South Africa, he relocated to Boston to study at Berklee, where he spent 2021 to 2024 as a rigorous fixture in the electronic scene. He then moved to New York City to further expand his label and contribute to the city’s rich musical heritage. His immersive, high-energy sets are defined by a genre-blurring intensity, using textural references to reality to guide listeners through long, introspective journeys into the deeper edges of the genre. ❀ Elly DJ is a California-born, Queens-based writer and DJ. Inspired by the sonic innovations of Detroit and the spirit of the 1990s underground, her mixing evinces a deep affection for groovy techno, left-field bass music, oddball electro, and psychedelic sounds of all kinds. She also co-hosts Top Surgery, a monthly trans mixer, and runs independent record label Midnight Ecstasy alongside her best friend, Hannah Account. ❀ NYC-based DJ and selector threehz explores the emotive sides of techno, experimental, and ambient music for every performance, taking inspiration from sludgy dark psychedelia to pulsing warpdrive drum tracks. Whether rinsing healing or destructive frequencies, as their namesake suggests, threehz knows how to craft textured, curated soundscapes on the dance floor which can be heard at multiple event series’ in NYC and residencies for The Lot Radio. ❀ ** Address will be sent to ticketholders before midnight on Saturday May 9th. ** Hybrid Identity is a queer-centered collective, exploring spaces between anything hybrid.
