About

On this evening, minus32heartbeat + Metamyther + All The Beauty And The Terror + meju will blur the lines between improvisation and composition, curating an atmosphere that invites listeners to immerse themselves in an embryonic musical experience. --- minus32heartbeat is the musical project of Matt Friedlander, a New York–based artist whose emotionally layered sound blends elements of indie rock, ambient electronics, dream pop, and cinematic soundscapes. After a 15-year hiatus from music—before which he was the guitarist and songwriter for the NYC indie band The GoStation—Friedlander returned in 2023 under the new moniker, channeling a deeply personal and atmospheric musical vision. In 2024, he released his debut album DHRICMV through his independent label Big Leather Jacket Music. The eight-track record draws inspiration from a wide palette ranging from melodic anthems, emotional urgency, ambient textures and cinematic moods. Swirling guitars, analog synths, field recordings, and layered vocals crafted immersive songs that are both grand in scale and intimate in tone. Collaborations followed with singles featuring Then Man Made A Machine and slagoona as well as the four-song EP, QSFW2S, with further exploration of sonic curiosities and genre-defying musical inclinations. His most recent full-length album, The Place Where We Get Bows, is described by Friedlander as “the score to a movie that hasn’t been made yet, and may never get made…but it’s the most beautiful music I’ve ever created.” – Tristan Kneschke’s Metamyther project explores the union of cinematic and industrial music, injecting the three-movement structure prevalent in classical sonatas with contemporary electronic timbres. This is most realized on his eighth album, “Born of the Egg,” an odyssey of synthesizers, drum machines, and modular textures, released in 2025. He has just released the split EP “Antinomy” with modular artist Patrick O’Brien. Kneschke has quickly gained a reputation in New York City for his intense live shows. He has played across the United States, presenting multiple performances and hourlong lectures at Colorado’s Electrowave Festival for two consecutive years. This year, he performed at the gear expo Superbooth in Berlin, and will be performing a conceptual modular work featuring heavy manipulation of external drum triggers at Knobcon this year. Prior performance highlights include the official pre-festival showcase for Knobcon 2024, a prominent stage at NYU’s Sounds of De/Composition conference, and two consecutive years at Vermont’s Stage 33 nonprofit community incubator. He’s contributed scores to numerous films, including the documentary “Conceiving Our Future,” which screened to a sold-out theater at DocNYC, America’s biggest documentary festival. He is currently creating a rescore for the classic horror film “Night of the Living Dead.” He produces the dark-themed live event Electric Abyss through the New York Modular Society, runs a monthly residency at the independent venue Wonderville, and organizes a workshop called Feedback Loop for producers to receive critique on works in progress. Kneschke has taught classes at the School of the Visual Arts as an adjunct professor and has been published by Bloomsbury Academic, Routledge, and Dancecult, among others. He operates an active Youtube channel discussing electronic music gear and features interviews with luminaries in the field. --- meju | 메주 is the solo musical project of Brooklyn-based artist and producer Dave Shim. Making use of modular synthesis, acoustic instrumentation, and field recordings, meju examines self-regulating systems and iterative loop-based processes to create hypnotic at times unstable compositions – drawing inspiration from the weather-worn surfaces of the natural world to the nondeterministic modes of deep listening. Shim’s creative practice spans three decades and encompasses both visual and aural art. His meju project began life in 2023 and will release its debut album later this year. He also performs in and produces the drums + electronics duo Wet Pollen.
